His name is Hermes. My cousin just kinda... dropped him off.

So. Yeah. The last week has been split between OH GOD SCHOOL and OH GOD BIRD.

...to embarrass yourself, before someone else does it?

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] random_redshirt a little while ago about how I never log into Facebook. We got on the topic that I hadn't changed my profile picture in over four years. I made a crack that at least it wasn't still me dressed like a superhero. She gave me a curious look, and then I sat back and thought... had it ever been? Facebook must have come after that!

I care so little about Facebook that I guess I'd never gotten around to uploading what is both the stupidest and most awesome picture of me, ever. (Awesome because it's so stupid, it comes right back around, see.) So, I might as well put it here.

High school-aged kiff made bad decisions. )

...Yeeeeah.

So. My nerd membership is secure, I think.

My Eyes--!

Today, Kiffies did a very stupid thing.

Kiffies went to the local comic book store. Yes, even though it's not Wednesday. The comic book store in town has other things besides comics, see. Like CDs, and DVDs, and VHS tapes.

That last one got me in trouble. Because, unlike the CDs and DVDs, which tend to be new, the tapes are, by default, old. And cheap. Very cheap. As in, $3 cheap.

Kiffies are now the owner of a copy of Ghost.

That isn't the stupid thing.

The stupid thing is that, after buying said movie, I immediately went home and watched it.

You can't get dehydrated from crying, right?

I went home this weekend. Which means I had access to my main comics stash.

Several coughing fits (and spider webs) later, I emerged victorious! I found most of my H4H run and a good chunk of my Avengers run, along with some odds-and-ends Captain America books and a few old Invaders books.

But-- and an eliyes may want to pay attention here --I also found that issue of She Hulk I'd mentioned. Y'know, the one with time travel hijinks?

So, for you, ely, I bring scans:

Under here! )

And, just because I could, I also scanned some Jim scenes from Heroes for Hire. These may only appeal to me, but I'll include them here, anyway.

Jim! )

Now I go off to spend the rest of my night doing homework and fretting about the coming week of schooling. You know, just business as usual.

Post with a character from a fandom I follow, and I'll respond with...

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Be aware that it may take me a few days to respond, due to, y'know, school.

WTF, LJ. Can I not get a basic, text-only update post anymore?

So--

First off, still not dead. But certainly feeling the OH GOD WHY pull of school.

Secondly, am slowly (very, very slowly) getting test-sketches done for the final bit of art I owe, to taichara. I have to balance that within what little free time I have, though, so it's moving like molasses. Boo.

Thirdly...

I deeply want this poster. I have no idea where I would put it, nor if I can really justify that sort of an expense ATM, but you have no idea of the levels of DO WANT that are currently circulating in my system.

Also, ed may be interested in this badass poster right here. Fuck yeah.

An afternoon at random's house, mooching off of the internets therein, allowed me to find the following Tumblr:

Ask Captain A

Spoilers for the Cap movie, obviously. But also d'aww and bwahaha and bwee. So. Maybe the spoilers are worth the risk. :3

Today, my school began its annual calving enterprise.

I backed into a star thistle. I have hay in places I didn't know it was possible to get hay. I still need to break in my boots.

I start my first full 24-hour shift on Thursday.

This is going to be fun.
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Dan)
And then breakdance!

ONTD has collected some spoilerific pictures from the set of The Avengers, for the curious.

http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/62086136.html

They are very silly and likely need to be captioned. For justice.

You know, it's weird. Ten years ago, I had totally pegged the Justice League to have been the super-team to get a movie, first. The Avengers always seemed a bit of a pipe dream -- Thor, alone, seemed impossible to cast, much less to have any sort of believable presence on camera. And yet, there he is -- along with the rest of the team.

I'm not sure if I should be excited, or skeptical; this is a Wheadon thing. But he's only got an hour and a half to fuck things up, so hopefully it won't utterly rip my heart out and stomp on it.

...which means YouTube.

This video is relevant to my interests.

kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Namor)
How do I know?

Because I was reading the Fuck Yeah, Invaders Tumblr (http://fuckyeahinvaders.tumblr.com/) and somehow got linked to a Namor RPer who had some posts wherein he insisted on speaking about himself in the third person. For some reason, this was hilarious. Now I'm hearing Namor narrate everything and wondering if he and Dr. Doom took English lessons from the same place.

Also, because I'm unsure if [livejournal.com profile] eliyes ever read them, or would want to read them, or what... Some good Invaders stories can be found in:

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty (1998) #2, 3, 4
Set fairly early in the Invaders' career. Has some nice character development for Namor, and makes full use of the "damnit Torch not again" reprogramming trope.

Marvel Universe (1998) #1, 2, 3
Not a very good stand-alone Invaders story, but great if you're familiar with some extended Marvel Universe canon (like Dr. Doom, Hydra, etc). Features a nice little backstory blip on each of the main Invaders within the narrative.

All Winners Comics 70th Anniversary Special (2009)
Although not technically Invaders, I love this little one-shot. The story is great, the dialogue is very well-done, and the art fits the story. Plus, there's a good number of outright D'AWW moments between Bob Frank and Madeline Joyce.

Bonus dialogue, from that:

Bob: I'm insulted! I'll have you know I was proconsul of that fraternity! Friendship! Justice! Learning! Sigma Chi!

Maddy: Oh lord and butler! No wonder you gave your alter ego your frat nickname!

Bob: You know, I honestly thought they were calling me "Wizard" at first. And by the time I wised up it was, well... Junior year!
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Wibbly Wobbly)
...because even a good friend wouldn't want to be within half a mile of an out-of-practice violinist.

Czech it out!

The local antique stores are, for the most part, junk stores. They sell old things that nobody really wants (as opposed to slightly-used things that rich people want). I found this piece of junk next to a half-size member of its kin, chillin' and generally being useless -- the latter because it was missing two of its strings. A few days at the local music shop and it was back in working order.

Though, I don't remember holding a bow hurting this much, back in elementary. It's like someone punched me in the hand. Ow.

Maybe investing in some lessons wouldn't be a bad idea. If anything, it would force me to play. The bow thing will go away with practice and time. And I could potentially mooch free tuning off of the instructor. Being pretty much tone deaf sucks.
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (MINI)
...and thus, mooching off the tubes therein:

Minor warning for the easily motion-sick; the camera is not terribly stable, and does shudder a bit.
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Wibbly Wobbly)
The last few weeks have been... interesting.

I'm enrolled in summer school (in order to pick up some poor grades, and also to fulfill some GEs), and it's a lot more work than I'd initially figured. The quarters are shorter and more compacted, meaning more material at a faster pace, and, half the time, I'm not even sure where I'm supposed to be, much less what I'm supposed to be learning.

I'm hoping to have a brief reprieve this weekend, and will try and finish the squirrel arts then.

For the curious, random has already been paid and is currently in Europe, spending all of her delicious Euros. Thank you to everyone who donated -- even those who haven't paid yet; she's been given her due.

And, on a different note...

I have found a hilarious way to wind down from studying. )
kiffie: Harry Dresden and Bob the Ghost, from The Dresden Files. (Bob and Harry)
Another Dresden fic, because... Well, because [livejournal.com profile] ja_bucc and [livejournal.com profile] cyloran (and also [livejournal.com profile] eliyes) were writing Dresden fics and I have this habit of chasing bandwagons, what can I say. :3

A fic wherein Murphy gets initiated into another part of Harry's home life. )
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (VW)
I've had this silly idea for a Dresden story in my head for a long time. I've never formally written down anything, but tonight I actually went and wrote out a teeny little scene. It doesn't really fit in anywhere in the grand scheme of things, but what the hey.

The full story, itself, hardly makes any sense, so.

Warning for rampant silliness. )
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Default)
Mailed!

They will be on their way to the land of delicious maple noms by tomorrow. :D
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Linocut Owl)
So I've been cataloging my books on LibraryThing.

See 'em here at LibraryThing

Not everything I own is up there, yet-- hell, that's not even everything in my main bookcase! --but it's a good start.
