kiffie: A cartoon Human Torch. (Torchling)

Today, the semi-annual fruitcakening happened again.

Everything went fairy well, until I got to the dates. Dates are hard to peel on a good day. For some reason, this bunch was almost impossible. The skins seemed to dissolve back into the meat the second I picked at them. I ended up getting frustrated after ~3/4 cup, and tossed the rest into the trash. Good riddance.

Beyond missing a few datebits, I made some other minor tweaks to the recipe, as well. We'll see how it turned out when random and Mr. Kitteh come home in a few hours.

I went to the store and came home with $50 worth of steak.

I REGRET NOTHING.

Question!

Tomorrow, I am going to attempt to mail my aunt some fruitcake. Now, as said aunt lives in Pennsylvania, it will probably take near a week to get to her. In preparation for this trip, the fruitcake has been liberally soaked in rum (to kill off any spoilage organisms on the outside) and wrapped in foil. It will be put into a mostly airtight Ziplock in the morning, then into its mailing box.

What else should I do? Has anyone else on my flist had any experience mailing delicious noms across the country?

Ow ow ow.

I have bad choice in food.

Hissy brought some spiced beef jerky when she came up. I am absolutely in love with it. However, it's so hot, it burns. Badly. As in, a piece the size of my hand requires a 12 oz. glass of water to eat comfortably.

I consider this an acceptable sacrifice.

Oh god it burns so good. :9

Mmm, bacon.

It is so delicious. I had many.

Thankfully, however, I do not subscribe to my mom's bacon-cooking method: "I opened the bag, now I have to cook it all!"

Not that me or my dad ever complain. :9

Nom nom nom

A hunk of meat and a mountain of taters. Ah. Potatoes. Without them, college students would starve.

Odd

I have a sudden craving for fermented salmon and cat-piss cheese.

Not odd on their own, but they usually don't show up together.

When tortilla chips are out of the picture, there can be a delicious love affair between salsa and saltine crackers.

Even better if it's the first meal one has in a day. :9

So I have a kitty plate with garlic salt on it.

And I am slowly licking at it.

...I was curious if the new brand of garlic salt was as good as the old one. So sue me.
