Or, Why Kiffies Are Tired Today.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] random_redshirt, Mr. Kitty, and this here Kiff went on a hike up Bishop's Peak. It was a nice day, neither hot nor cold, and a grand time was had by all. Well, mostly. Kiffies found out she is more out of shape than previously thought, and made it less than half-way up the mountain before realizing this. Heh. Whoops?

I did make it to the top, but not without quite a lot of whining, bitching, and nearly passing out. I think the other two found this equally amusing and horrifying -- if I died there, they'd have to cart my corpse down the mountain. What an inconvenience!

random has graciously allowed me to post the awesome pictures she took while we were making our ascent. :D

A happy too-many-years wedding anniversary to my parents.

Why do I say "too-many-years"? Because they've been married so long that neither can remember exactly how long they've been together, and they've both reached the age where they're stopped caring. Hell, when I last talked to them, they were both confused as to the exact date, even!

So they're heading off to a nice restaurant and hedging their bets that the anniversary is today and not, as they wondered, on the 27th.

LOL parents.

Hmm!

Picked up "The Somnambulist," by Jonathan Barnes, today on a whim.

I'm about five chapters in and enjoying it a little more than I expected. It's very clearly dimestore drivel, but intentionally so, and the jabs at Holmesian-type detectives alone are pleasing me enough that, should the book have no other merits, I might consider keeping it around.

To it's credit, by its premise, alone, I'm inclined to like it. I do love magicians as main characters -- they're so much fun. It's an overused trope, but an entertaining one, and I wouldn't mind a novel series going in that direction, rather than wizards.

I have been warned, however, that the ending will engender a "WTF?!" reaction in almost every reader, either good or bad. I'm keen to finish it, if only to see what everyone is so wound up about. Most of the reviews made it seem like it's a 'love it or hate it' scenario -- I can't resist that sort of an offering.

At some point, I do need to read through "The Prestige," as well, though probably over a summer where I can deal with multiple mindfucks and not have to worry about school the next morning. Delicious, delicious mindfucks.

I just watched the Hallmark "Beauty and the Beast," courtesy of the Tube of You.

It was a wonderfully-made film, and I'm surprised I'd never managed to see it before now. It's one of the few that managed to both stick to the plot of the original tale and give a good, engaging story. Still, at the end, we come to that common problem -- the Beast is dying, Belle offers him her love, and then...

Change back.

Seriously.

Eugh.

Why is the Prince always so... *makes hand motions* ...yech? And it's not like there was even much of a costume change, here, only the removal of a mask and some gloves. But there was a huge change in his demeanor, speech pattern, and carriage. And not in a good way. It all suddenly became very, very offputting and, even, outright unappealing.

Humph.

I could do without the tusks, pal, but I'd like the polite, gentle woobie back, if you don't mind.

I normally do OCHEM problems on a whiteboard, because I end up wasting too much paper, otherwise. Further, whiteboards have multicolored markers, and kiffies are mentally five and love colors.

Problem:

kiffies are mentally five and love colors.

Tugger!
Dis Tugger, he is pleased by somefing.

Anyway, I am working on those doodles I owe.

I've got the base-sketch for the first one done and am attempting to get it to a final pencil. We'll see how that goes this weekend. :3

Typically, professors on the first day of class give an intro speech that helps set the tone for the rest of the quarter.

Today, one of my professors told us that he will do his best to scare people out of the classroom, and that "everyone will cry at some point during this class."

Wait...

I have "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" on DVD.

This is actually a lot crazier than I remember it. It's hokey and doofy and absolutely childish. It is amazing. 8D

And, of course, everyone knows what a sucker I am for love stories. (Especially when the sorcerer gets the girl.)

Curse you, Walken!

I was YouTubing for things and, on a whim, decided to look up "Happy Cat," from Puss In Boots.

That was a mistake. Oh god. It's in my brains. D:

I do these things to myself.

Yep

I just put Frankie in the 20 gallon.

He spent the first few minutes utterly confused, the next bolting around the tank like a maniac, then decided he hated everything and sat on a leaf to pout.

Right now, he's trying to figure out what a current is.

I'll take some video when he's calmed down.
