Earl Grey "straight" is an acquired taste. Usually I brew a pot with one Grey bag and one or more Black/Orange Pekoe bags. How many bags total depends on the size of the pot. Typical: two bags for a six-cup kettle or four bags for a eight-cup pitcher.
Because I got my taste for tea in Florida I don't use cream of any kind. But sugar/sweetener is good.
Any idea why you can taste the bergamot stronger in decaf Earl Grey? Because if throwing in some orange pekoe (also decaf -- I'm not allowed to have much caffeine) would help, I'd try it.
It would mean not making my tea on a bag-by-bag basis, but I'd try it.
