Guess what kiffies got this weekend?

Hint: It's small, round, and looks like a bean.

Cooper!

Cooper!

Cooper!

Cooper!

Excuse my shit parking job. I was really damn tired from the drive back to SLO. Note that there's a "no parking" space next to me, so I'm not forcing someone else to also park like an ass.

So, new car.

There's a Story here, folks.

Gather 'round, my beens, and kiffies will tell you a tale of Adventure, woe, and really crappy shifting.

I left for LA last Thursday, about 3 in the afternoon, with hopes of making it home and surprising my mom (she expected me home Friday). Voodoo's brakes had been a little squirrely lately, but I figured it was nothing to worry about. Her brakes have always been bad, and I had just had them adjusted, so maybe I was just paranoid.

Then they locked up in Buelton. I wasn't pressing the pedal, but the brakes were definitely engaged. I let her sit for a little bit while I went in for some delicious pea soup. When I returned, she seemed normal again. Off I went, hoping it was just an isolated incident and nothing would come of it.

Nope.

She made it as far as Calabasas. Once we cleared the hill, the brakes locked up again, this time for good. I got her to a Chevron station and called my folks.

I said I'd wanted to surprise my mom. Well, I did. 'Sup, parental units, send a tow, please.

We got her home okay. The tow guy was nice. Both my dad and the tow guy came across a rather bad backup on the 134 freeway, but still managed to get home within 2 hours. I, of course, promptly passed out.

(And, finally, after all that, Voodoo managed to lose her nose emblem. *sigh* You suck, car. So much.)

With Voodoo and kiffies both home, my parents figured it was as good a time as any to go get the MINI. So, Friday afternoon, we all headed over to the MINI dealership in LA and picked up my flying bean MINI Clubman. I nearly died during the test drive, I was so nervous. The rest of the day was spent getting used to the car and making hilariously horrible newbie mistakes, like accelerating too quickly into first gear and killing the engine.

I'm torn. I love this car. It's so shiny, so teeny, and so beeny. BUT -- I'm still not entirely comfortable driving a new car, regardless of how much I like it, and I'm still not entirely comfortable with the idea of owning a new car, even though I had little say in it (see: parental units). Not that I'm not grateful, because eeeee, new car! But... you know.

Now I go off to make sleep with face.

( -o-) Zzzz...
