Looking up videos on YouTube of my old high school makes me both miss it terribly and also be immensely glad I'm not there anymore, at the same time.
I hated getting up at 5:30 every morning just to get out of the house by 6:15. I hated the politics and the bullshit that went down in the administration. I hated the crappy lunches and the expensive snacks shop and the balcony that puddled when it rained. I hated climbing seven flights of stairs to get to English.
But do miss the blue benches in the morning. I loved talking there until the doors opened and we could all get in, out of the cold. I loved the dance numbers that happened out of the blue, and the bad art lining the walls, and the fact that no one ever really paid attention during Art Attack. I loved sneaking into elevators, hiding in the shelter areas during lunch, and stealing paper from the art rooms to fold into airplanes. I loved making friends. I really miss that.
