Couldn't sleep, so now I'll rant.
And about something that, likely, none of you want to hear about!
This whole Bob-and-Winifred thing. It's pretty much completely fanon.
Canon said that Bob had loved a sorceress named Winifred, she died, he brought her back. That's... pretty much all we get. So most anything that involves dear, dead Winifred is speculation.
That being said...
Hrothbert wasn't a very nice guy. He did some pretty bad shit. Probably on-par with some of the big bads in the books, judging by his punishment. And there's no way he got trapped inside his own skull just because he brought Winifred back. That was likely the catalyst, but not the only reason.
So what in the world would make anyone think that Winifred would be a nice person, either?
Bob says she was a sorceress. That means she was dabbling all in the Black, just like him. Maybe not quite as far in, seeing as how Bob's the one who got awarded the itty-bitty-living-space, but still.
You know what I think? I think they were EVIL. They called down fire from the heavens to scorch the earth. They summoned demons to do their bidding. And I bet they kicked puppies, too.
And you know what? I want to see that. I want to see them as the most kickass, loving, evil couple, ever. Always skirting the Wardens, always one step ahead of everyone. Maybe not world domination types, but most certainly trying to cause trouble and trying to get their way. A powerful, but parading and vain, bad boy and his equally-badass wife, making a few Wardens' lives an absolute hell every week. (I'd watch a TV show just about that!)
Not only would it make backhistory a lot more fun, it would also help add character to Bob. Here's this once all-powerful sorcerer, totally humbled by his near-millenium in servitude. He's given up, but maybe not quite learned his lesson -- when he met Harry, he still insisted on being called a 'sorcerer', after all. But then you get his life with Harry: Bob finally realizes that doing good is awesome. Yay. And now he can help make up for all his past fuck ups. If he was just an unjustly imprisoned wizard played as the scapegoat, it's not nearly as interesting, and it doesn't say much for his time imprisoned OR with Harry.
Okay. And with that, I will stop. Because even I realize how pathetic I sound after a while. X3
