In less sucky news, I finally fixed the older of my two oil lamps.
It now burns at the correct temperature and doesn't flicker.
The other lamp will eventually need the same treatment, but unlike the older lamp, it is undamaged and does not run the same risk of overheating/cracking. It isn't burning to capacity, but all the same, it's not in immediate danger.
