I don't think that, if done right, Our Heroes would see through it. Holmes is, after all, a genius. He'd lay out false leads and things particularly aimed to mislead and confuse. But subtle. Again, this would play into having a double-agent.
Hmm. What if their Contact who brings them all together is Watson? Watson would only have to tell them, "Holmes has gone mad!" and they'd probably believe him. Plus, it would lead to some interesting mission dynamics.
