Ladies and gentlebeens, may I present...

...Frankie.

Frankie.

Frankie.

Frankie is my test fish for the behavioral modification section of Companion Animal. I'm going to be teaching him to come to the surface for food when I tap on the glass.

I've wanted a fish for a while, and this just gave me an excuse to finally go and get one. Frankie is currently in my room, but once he's settled in and used to his new tank, I may move him to the living room so random can also enjoy his fishy fishiness. :3

WATCH OUT FOR CRASHING PLANES, FRANKIE. IT HAPPENS IN YOUR AREA.

He is cute. :3

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
ZEE PLANE MASTER ZEE PLANE!

He has lipstick. :3

Ha! I was just thinking about that show the other day. X3

He has lipstick?

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Technically, both lipstick and eyeliner.

The black colouration is around his eyes and lips, but nowhere else on his face. I'll try and get a better picture later. It's actually why he's called "Frankie" -- one of my classmates thought it made him look like Dr. Frank-n-Furter. X3

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
In more than one sense of the word. He likes swimming like a maniac -- which is why the pictures are blurry; I couldn't get him to hold still long enough to get a good one. X3

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Would that count as a second trick to teach him.
1. come to surface for food when glass tapped
2. pose for picture when ??

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, I wish.

I don't think fish can learn "stay."

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he's not a shark; pausing movement won't kill him. I've known bettas who would hang motionless for several minutes at a time.

Usually staring balefully out of the glass at another betta. eta: USE A MIRROR!

Is that a betta? He's adorable! (And holy crap, spacious tank is spacious!)

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. A little delta-tail betta. :3

They actually need a lot more space than most folks give 'em. Not that they can't live in a teeny-tiny little bowl, but they usually won't thrive. Plus, the proper 5.5g aquarium tanks were cheaper than the 2 gallon "betta" tanks. :3

I was gonna say, if you want to teach him to flare, get a little Clickable Eraser, for some reason, bettas flare like CRAZY at those things!

Man, this makes me miss Nani and Cap'n. I had Nani taught to come to the surface for 'snuggles' (I would actually pet him) and I managed to train them both to come to the surface to get baby spiders I'd kill for them. Bettas are FUN.

I remember you showing me pictures of Cap'n. :3

They are the best fish. They're surprisingly interactive for supposedly "loner" fishies.

Ahahaha, spider snacks! I should probably get some brine shrimp for this little guy. He only has pellet food, atm.

[identity profile] lilblueunicorn.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He was such a good fishie. ;_; Not as friendly as Nani, though. The red ones are more active, I've found.

Wait'll the warmer months. Tiny insects that get inside make the most wonderful snacks for them. Once Cap'n ate an entire canal fly! O_O

Just don't get him flake anything--Cap'n got extremely offended by flake food. @_@

Clearly, Sparky needs another fish. *innocent*

Haha, must get Vivi socialized first. XD

fishyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :3

Also I saw this on the internets and thought of you

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
He is a feesh. :3

OH GOD OWLS ON THE BLANKETS <3

[identity profile] edward-hyde.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
HOOT :3

Bettas are great, we had one we got unexpectedly when someone gave my mom one of those vase setups for some reason I don't remember. He eventually got moved to an actual tank and he was a neat fish, although we quickly figured out he was not one of those rare bettas that can have tankmates. :|

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch. Yeah, most males are pushy and aggressive. It's too bad, because they're such awesome fish that it would be neat if they could have friends. :/

[identity profile] edward-hyde.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Supposedly some can get along with armored bottom feeders and "odd thingies" like shrimp or snails; I want to say we tried dwarf frogs with him, which he didn't actively kill but I think he stressed them or ate all the food or something, cause they weren't around as long as they could have been. (But then my mom and sister are not the most...in-depth of pet owners beyond bare fish store basics, so I can't say how well the tank was maintained for frogs either.)

Cute little guy. :)

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2010-01-30 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
He is the best crossdresser fish ever. :D

I really need to get a better picture of his little face -- his lipstick/eyeliner combo is hilarious.

lol!
