Well...

I turned off the heater in my room and will be keeping it off as long as possible throughout the day.

Hubert has started wheezing, and while this could simply be because of the humidity from the rain we've been having, it could also be because the heater has been on almost nonstop to accomidate Bob and, as we all know, parakeets and deskmounts are not all that great a combination. I am curious -- does Patton still use asbestos in their heaters? I hadn't thought so, which is why I'm using this one and not the smaller one that works a lot better, but I figure if someone on here knows differently, I'd love to be told. If so, I'm going to have to find a different way to heat my room.

Also, I went out and bought a new UTH for Bob, which is now mounted on the side of his tank. I'm an idiot and have been worried that he'll burn his feet on the glass, but I suppose he knows better.

Hmm. Hubert's stopped. That's good. Maybe all my fears are for nothing and he's just been having the typical breathing spells. Poor boy.

Still, I'm gonna keep an eye on him. I really hate missing school, but if he needs vet time...

I hgihly doubt they use asbestos, but you haev to be REALLY careful when using space heaters around parrots cus about 95% of them use teflon coating in some way shape or form, which is toxic to birds. In a major way, lots of birds die when teflon pans are left on too hot, or when heaters are left on coated with it.

Maybe you know this and your space heater doesn't have teflon, but I just wanted to make sure.

I knew about the teflon in pans, but I did not know space heaters had it in them!

...Hrm. I don't know if this has Teflon in it. Do you know of an alternative to them, by any chance?

most people I know can't find it lsited anywhere, and have to write to hte companies asking whether they have teflon or not, most do. Maybe ask in parrot lovers, there's a good chance someone will know of a good brand, and maybe if yours is safe.
