The Hike of Doom

Or, Why Kiffies Are Tired Today.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] random_redshirt, Mr. Kitty, and this here Kiff went on a hike up Bishop's Peak. It was a nice day, neither hot nor cold, and a grand time was had by all. Well, mostly. Kiffies found out she is more out of shape than previously thought, and made it less than half-way up the mountain before realizing this. Heh. Whoops?

I did make it to the top, but not without quite a lot of whining, bitching, and nearly passing out. I think the other two found this equally amusing and horrifying -- if I died there, they'd have to cart my corpse down the mountain. What an inconvenience!

random has graciously allowed me to post the awesome pictures she took while we were making our ascent. :D

Looking out over the valley, below. Note the ominous fog.

OMINOUS FOG.

Making our way up. Mr. Kitty in the foreground, Kiffies in the background, clearly doing the Leo strut.

Photobucket
At about the halfway point, I sat and considered the likelihood of survival should I have skidded down the side of the mountain to freedom.

I evidently love random.

Near the top. The last bit of sunlight burns off some fog before getting eaten by the mountains.

These pictures are lovely! Kudos to random! And I wish to glee over a kiff's Exploring Fedora of Awesomesauce. *glees*

My fedora, it is a mighty fedora. :D

I own two -- this one, which is straw and is good for summer, and a dark brown one, which is wool and is for rainy days when I do not want to get wet. Both live, together, on the hat rack. :D

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2011-04-04 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
:O I cannot tell it is straw from the pictures. :O

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2011-04-05 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's a very tight weave. It's a very stiff hat, for being straw. I lurve it so.

:o

Where did you get this thing of majesty? I wish to procure one as well, sir!

It's from a site called Hats In The Belfry (lol pun).

;o;

This website is a beautiful thing

Love the pictures! We don't have such things as mountains around here--despite the last Star Trek movie. :)

Captain Kirk is climbing a mountain! (Why is he climbing a mountain?)

Bishop's Peak is really the only easily hikable mountain we have in SLO, proper, though I'm sure most people from more mountainous regions would call it a big hill. Back in Los Angeles, we have many mountains, though I am sad to say I've never hiked them. Someday. :3

Heh. That was WEIRD.

I referred to mountains in Iowa 'cause in the last Star Trek movie (from '09) there's a scene--while young Kirk is still in Iowa--that has them in the background. Cyloran would say Iowa is flat, but really it isn't... except that it does NOT have mountains. :D

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2011-04-05 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...I thought that was immense futuristic-city-type buldings in the background, myself, but I do wonder about the immense ravine he drove that car into. What the hell is up with that? It's an immense, horribly deep, really really long gash across an otherwise pretty flat landscape. What is it for? Where did it come from? Does something like that actually exist in Iowa of today?

[identity profile] ja-bucc.livejournal.com 2011-04-05 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, you're right. There's a huge future-scape in the background of the part where he's in Iowa (I looked it up on YouTube). I'm thinking I'm remembering the mountains from one of the movie trailers. It's explained better by this guy, actually. :)

There's most definitely not a Grand Canyon/Ravine to China anywhere in Iowa. I guarantee. :D Most of Iowa isn't that flat either--even the parts that are farmed. And I live in a river valley that's pretty hilly/raviney.

(The flat-looking scenery in the icon is in Illinois, by the way.)

I <3 you too. 8D "Whine" is a bit strong as a term. And we would have made sure to bring you back down the mountain, if only so Cat and Frankie could pay their respects. :)
