kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Bob and Bob)

*ding!*

I think I just realized why Harry Dresden has so much trouble with his car.

Beetle!
The Blue Beetle, from Storm Front. Note the awesome spray-on patina.
Note: Not my cap.

You'll note, peoples, that the Blue Beetle is what looks to be a Super Beetle.

Somehow, when I'm reading the books, I always picture Harry driving something older. An oval window or the like. Mainly because he's really anti-tech, and the Super Beetles are probably the most complex of the Bugs ever produced. Well, with the exception of the Mexican-made Beetles, which had much more modern features in them by the late 1990s. Granted, this could be a monetary choice -- parts for older Bugs can be hard to come by -- but I'm guessing that what he spent on the occasional part, he'd save on fewer repairs in the long run.

...why the hell am I seriously trying to figure out the logical lulz of a fictional wizard?

I agree, having only read the books; I suspect the makers of the show lacked your VW knowledge.

Voodoo is very disappointed, you know. The Blue Beetle is her favorite character!

It's so hard to find good automotive rolemodels in detective stories.

....

K.I.T.T.: I think I may be offended.
"The Tomato": Granted, I tend to handle the action aspect of the show...
"The Goat": ...and I had to wait until my predecessor blew up spectacularly and then one of my detectives had a touching reconciliation with his father, who had locked me in a garage for a decade, the bastard--
"Sweetheart": --and so what if I corner like I'm on rails? Before me, my detective totaled four vehicles in two and a half years. I have staying power, chief.
The Peugeot 403: I am beloved by my driver and my fanbase both. (I just need a wash 'n' wax.)

Mind, I said "detective" and not "action" -- KITT and the GTO are more VRUM cars. (I confess I don't know the others.) The Blue Beetle is a workhorse, just like Voodoo! :3

"The Tomato" is Det. Kenneth Hutchinson's nickname for Det. David Starsky's Ford Gran Torino.
"Sweetheart" is what Det. (and sentinel)James Ellison calls his truck.
The Peugeot 403 is Columbo's car, omg how did you not know this? :O

P.S. The GTO belongs to a detective, ergo it's on the list.

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I never paid much attention to Columbo's car. I was usually too distracted by headdesking at his "Uhn, one more thing!" XD

The GTO... hmmm. It did, indeed, belong to a detective, but... Well, if VRUM counts, we also have to add in Jim Rockford's Pontiac Firebird.

*dreamy smile* ...Yeah.

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Aaaaannnd this has just devolved into car porn, hasn't it?

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I was just fondly remembering my days of watching all these shows in reruns, but now I am instead having horrible, scarring flashbacks to that picture of K.I.T.T. and the Magic Schoolbus. DX

[identity profile] kiffie.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
My and your ideas of "car porn" vary dramatically, don't they?

*was simply imagining a few pretty, pretty cars driving over long, flat stretches of desert*

[identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
...I suspect that your definition of "car porn" is actually, therefore, much closer in spirit to my definition of "hand porn".

I WAS TIRED, OKAY. XD

I don't know what's going on here, but I'm lollin' at "blue beetle."

Wizard drives a car. Wizards from his universe make newer technology explode. Wizard intentionally drives a car that is, essentially, 1930s tech to avoid the problem. Still manages to make it explode on a weekly basis. Wizard feels the universe is out to get him. Wizard is not far off.

(Yeah, it took me a long time to not laugh when reading. The writer is a total geek, though, so it's very unlikely that this was simply random.)

ahahaha awww X3

also you should hop online, I'm bored and procrastinating on my writing and doing zodiac/numerology for fictional people :D
