Damn

For the past year or so, I've been trying to find a home for my Tata's small, angry kitty, Tammy. Up until now, she'd been living at my Tata's house and was cared for by my mom's brother. He didn't really want a cat, and last month he got his own apartment that didn't allow pets.

Last Saturday, mom's brother handed her the cat and pretty much said, "Here. Your problem now."

Today, my parents decided that Tammy was going to the shelter. Mind, I'd tried to set up an arrangement with The Cat House on the Kings, essentially a long-term boarding house with a spacious free-roaming area and adoption options for boardees. It would be $30 a month and she could live there indefinitely. But parents-- dad, specifically, I think --figured this was too much money and that the Pasadena Humane Society was a better match. She'd get adopted right away, my dad said. Small thing like her, people would snatch her up.

Never mind that Tammy has spina bifida. Or that she can't jump or run. Or that she's people aggressive. Yeah, she'd get adopted, all right.

I think I've just given up. I've fought with my dad too often about pets. It's hard enough to convince him to spend money on our own animals, but to get him to agree to let me put every last penny I make in a month towards a cat that isn't even mine? It's like talking to a wall. And I just can't do it anymore.

And, on a completely selfish note, it will be one more animal that I love that I'll never get the chance to say goodbye to.

He might change his mind. But I'm not counting on it.

Would Paypal donations help?

It's not an issue of who's paying, really (although I appreciate the thought, more than you know), it's an issue that my dad thinks we have no responsibility to the cat beyond what we've already done. Putting money-- anyone's money --toward her upkeep is just beyond him.

I can kind of see where he's coming from. Tammy isn't even our cat, after all. My mom's brother had agreed to keep the cat until my Tata died. Tata's still alive, just in a rest home. So, really, if my mom's brother had kept his end of the deal, we wouldn't be dealing with this. But he didn't.

On the other hand, Tammy doesn't deserve to be sent off to a shelter, either.

I... I don't know. :/

Thank you for the thought. *hug*

Thanks from me, though I doubt Tammy would enjoy a hug very much...

:(

Oh Kiff, I'm so sorry.

I used to read this guy's blog online, he tried to give up his 12 year old 50lb chihuahua mix (yes, I'm serious!) to the humane society and the employee BITCHED him out saying that that dog wouldn't even be looked at by anyone. He packed up the dog and left and kept her until she died.

I'm just saying, your Dad's mind might be changed for him, we can only hope.

If we could keep her, we would. But we simply cannot have another cat. *sigh*

I hope things turn out right, but right now, it's just all bleh.
