Archie is (maybe) gonna go live with the Maintenence Guy here at Stenner.

I've found that, as long as I have Voodoo here, I really don't need a bike. The only thing I really used him for all year was bringing my textbooks back from the bookstore. And, unfortunetly, things that are unneeded at college only manage to get in the way. Archie has. Repeatedly. X3

So I was talking to Maintenence Guy. He loves Archie and would certainly take care of him. There are repairs that need to be done that he knows how to do, and I just don't have the money for. He also would be able to tinker with Archie's brakes whenever they needed it. I don't always have the time or the ability.

I told him he can take Archie for a week, ride him around. We'll see from there.

Voodoo goes in for FURTHER surgery tomorrow.

Looks like it's gonna be me an' Archie for the next week or so.

I'm torn. Riding a bike in 80 degree weather is uncomfortable. But so is driving with no A/C and the inability to open the sunroof because of the direct sunlight thing happening. I'm not quite sure if running around with Archie will be better or worse than with Voodoo. v(._.)v

Ah well. At least I got Archie's wheels aligned last week. Took the repairman two hours to figure out how to disconnect everything, though. Heh.

One day I will own something "new".

But not today. :3

Leave it to Archie to ruin an otherwise good day.

Archie evedently realized that I'd had a good day.

As I came home from the Architecture Building, I switched on the headlight and went on my merry way. Now, the headlight makes a lot of noise. Usually a thuk-thuk-thuk. This time, it made a loud whine. Since I'd never used the headlight on grass before, I assumed this was normal.

When I got onto pavement, it was still whining. I dismissed this as it simply breaking in and kept going.

Cue an hour and a trip to the store later.

Still whining.

So I'm at home and I decided to check it out...

And see rubber shavings everywhere.

The cylinder that sits on the tire had slipped down to the rim. Worse, it had dug into the unprotected part of the tire and gouged it. I'm surprised it didn't blow out on my way home from the store.

Donald is seriously gonna hate me soon. I keep coming in with some new problem. Now I think I need a new tire, and I don't think I can afford it.

Ugh.

I am going to use this icon ALL THE DAMN TIME. :D

Hoo.

Okay.

I was riding back from the PAC today. The street is called Perimeter, and Perimeter has two bike lanes -- one on either side. Both are doubly wide so that buses can park in them without disrupting bike traffic. Pretty awesome.

There are also crosswalks pretty much every fifty feet. I stop, or at least slow down, for every single one. Only two of these have stop signs, and I always stop for these.

Now, with crosswalks every fifty feet, WHY do pedestrians insist on crossing the street INBETWEEN the crosswalks? To make matters worse, most of these people pay absolutely no attention to oncoming traffic.

Well, this happened today, and BOY was it a doozy. Typical bleach-blonde bimbo on her fucking cellphone, looking at the ground, not paying any attention to traffic, and crossing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. Nevermind that there was a crosswalk not ten feet from where she decided to cross. And then she turns and starts to walk half-with and half-against the bike lane. She's a pedestrian, on her cellphone, not paying attention to anything, and she's walking in the bike lane. Yeah.

I intentionally whizzed by her with inches of clearance and took a horrible satisfaction in her startled cry of "OHMYGOD".

Lady, you're just lucky that I didn't want to fuck up Archie's new light.

OMG BEENS IN SPAAAAACE.

Took it a few hours ago.
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Old Been)
He fixed Archie's brake.

Without charging.

Even though he had to take apart the entire brake assembly.

So today was the day I took Archie in to get his new light put on.

It is a wondrous light, made of awesome and electricity.

However, once everything was done, I joked to Donald, "Just you wait -- something horrible's gonna happen."

And lo and behold. It did.

The nut on Archie's front brake stripped itself. Totally.

So I called Donald (I couldn't stop laughing, it was so ridiculous) and he said to bring Archie on by tomorrow. He also called the bike a bitch. At this point, I may have to agree with him.

Archie with his new light! ...That hor. )

It's sunny out, but still cold.

I spent most of my morning in the Spanos Theatre being taken on a tour. We saw the theatre's innards. The trap room and the scene shop and the large control center at the back that sits on a catwalk where they keep 1980s supercomputers to power their lights and sounds. We will be tested on this, the teacher reminded us, so I took notes as best I could.

Everything was small and cramped, and the small blackbox reminded me of OCHSA's Black Box. The same lights on the overhead grid, the same smell (black paint and dust) and the same horizon line that made you feel like you were in some monstorous cave. The only thing that was different was the floor. It lacked the hollow feeling that the Black Box had. Solid floors. Old building.

After the tour (I stayed a few moments longer to take another look upstairs -- one of the supercomputers had a "blinkenlights" sign proudly attached to it, there was a film splicer set off just to the side that was made from good solid metal, and the soundboard was wider than I am tall), I took Archie down to the park-like area in front of the Art Gallery. I sat in the sun and read. Archie simply sat, quiet for once, not even clicking in the sun as his metal warmed. No. It wasn't even warm enough for that. As soon as my legs would become warm, a wind would come and steal all of the feeling from them. It was sunny enough that I had to wear sunglasses, but still too cold to be comfortable outside. I read all but the last ten pages of "China Men" before packing up and making for the library.

So that's where I am. I'm trying to finish my report on "China Men", but it is hard.

The book is... it does not lend itself well to doing a report on. I feel silly and stupid explaining some of the points. But I will figure something out. I must. I give the report tomorrow.

And I still have two pages of math and hours of studying ahead of me.

Joy.

Well Then

I just got done tightening Archie's brakes.

I'd been meaning to since last Thursday, but I didn't actually get to it 'til today. It's good that I did, though. It just started raining.

Coming down the hill today, when it was dry, was hard enough. I barely was able to stop at the bottom of the hill. Archie insisted on creeping foreward even when I had the brakes fully pressed. If I'd tried that in the rain, I would never have stopped.

Now I have to be concerned about rust.

The ES class doesn't have a covered bike rack. Archie will be left out in the rain the whole time. D:

I seem to be uploading a lot of pics lately.

No matter.

Here. )

Have a publicity shot I found online for Star Trek: Of Gods and Men. Because it's dorky.

Also!

Today in ES, we were watching a video about Asian immigration to the US. I swear, in two seperate instances where they showed shots of India and Taiwan, I saw Archie-bikes.

I even inwardly said, "Hi, Archie!"

I love my beenbike. Even if he can't brake for shit. And sometimes bucks me for no reason. It is a strange, beeny love. :3

Things

Thing One:

I think Archie is gay.

Men constantly "hit on" him. I think I get more complements on my bike from creepy male cyclers than I do from fellow classmates.

Thing Two:

I bought Jabba a new tank. )

We will be discussing, officially, rehoming him when we have our meeting tonight.

Thing Three:

I haet u, ed. <3

Archie has lost his place in the common room to TWO bikes.

A painful-to-look-at pink-fading-to-purple mountain bike and a royal blue roadbike.

This, after I'd come home several times to Archie pushed into the hallway, and my floormates not even considerate enough to lift his kickstand, leaving gouges in the carpet where they'd forcibly dragged him.

So now Archie is in my room next to roomie's Blue Roadbike.

Which is more than fine.
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Old Been)
So over break, my roomie got a roadbike.

It is blue and small and dainty, and worth about 10 times more than what I paid for Archie. She is very protective of it.

However, as much as I want to say "good on you!" and pat her on the back... I just giggle whenever I look at it. I know it's much faster than my beenbike, will probably outlast it, and can actually keep up with traffic. But when both it and Archie are in our room, sitting side by side, I can't help it. I laugh. Hard.

Maybe pictures will explain. )

Other Bike Guy came by today.

He was carrying the bent wheel. I tried very hard not to laugh inbetween apologies.

I handed him the envelope with the moneys and now all is well.

I think my new battle cry will be "DAMNIT, ARCHIE!"
kiffie: Star Trek's Enterprise-D. (Old Been)
Archie hit another bike.

And totaled it.

He, however, is fine. :3

But now I owe Other Bike Guy $50 for a new wheel.
